Tip #1
It recommended that everyone schedule a regular dental visit approximately every six months. Routine dental visits will involve two parts: a check up and a dental cleaning. These visits will help to ensure that if there are any concerns, that they are caught early!
Tip #2
Brush and floss your teeth twice per day! Use a brush with soft to medium bristles. Dentists also recommend replacing your toothbrush every two months and cleaning using a slightly firm pressure, but not firm enough to irritate your gums.
Tip #3
Consume fresh fruits and vegetables multiple times each day - emphasize those rich in calcium! Adequate levels of calcium, as well as vitamin D, are shown to decrease the risk of losing teeth. Supplementation may be necessary if levels are too low.
Tip #4
Brush your tongue daily. The tongue is a powerful home for bacteria, and it is important to clean your tongue along with your teeth. The best way to clean your tongue is to brush gently back and forth, side to side, and then rinse with water.
Tip #5
Stay properly hydrated by drinking plenty of water and minimizing sugary beverages. Dentists suggest a minimum of eight glasses of water each day. Starting your day with two glasses of water is a great way to begin!
